No. 8 TCU will try to extend the nation's longest win streak against much tougher competition as Big 12 Conference play begins this weekend. It starts Saturday with a visit from 12th-ranked Oklahoma and one of the nation's top players in Trae Young.
The Horned Frogs, who have won 17 straight dating back to last year's NIT title run, start the league schedule with three straight ranked teams. They expect leading scorer and rebounder Kenrich Williams to return after missing a game with a lingering knee injury. The freshman Young leads the nation in scoring (28.7) and assists (10.4) while directing the country's highest-scoring offense (95.1 points). "We feel good about where we're at, and yet we know we've got to keep working at it," Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger said after last week's 104-78 win against Northwestern. "(TCU has) a long winning streak and they're probably feeling great also. (There are) a lot of good teams in the Big 12 and we know how tough every night is going to be."
TV: 2 p.m. ET, ESPN2
ABOUT OKLAHOMA (10-1): Young has scored at least 20 points in 10 straight games, including a 26-point, 22-assist performance against Northwestern State and a 31-point, 12-assist game against Northwestern before Christmas. Junior guard Christian James (13.4 points) and freshman forward Brady Manek (11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds) also average double figures for the Sooners, whose eight-game win streak includes a pair against ranked teams. Senior forward Khadeem Lattin adds 8.6 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds, while five more Sooners average at least five points each.
ABOUT TCU (12-0): Williams has six double-doubles and leads the Horned Frogs with 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds. Senior forward Vladimir Brodziansky adds 13.5 points on 66.7 percent shooting and 4.3 boards, while sophomore guard Desmond Bane chips in 12.7 points. Jaylen Fisher, coming off a career-high 21 points, is the team's fifth starter averaging at least 11.3 points and leads the team with six assists per game.
