Washington looks to bounce back from a stunning loss to last-place California when the 25th-ranked Huskies visit surging Stanford on Sunday. The Huskies won the outright Pac-12 regular-season title Thursday despite falling to Cal, which snapped a 16-game losing streak and recorded its first conference victory since Feb. 3, 2018.

After winning 15 of its previous 16 games, Washington came out flat against the Bears and were outrebounded by three in a 76-73 loss to Cal before a sparse crowd in Berkeley. “You’ve got to play with passion and have a chip on our shoulder with every possession, and we didn’t have that,” Huskies coach Mike Hopkins told reporters. “We didn’t have basic principles. We were breaking down, and you can’t do that with your foundation. They outhustled us. They out-toughed us.” The Huskies backed into the regular-season title because Arizona State and Oregon State lost on Thursday, and Washington hopes to regain some momentum against Stanford, which has won six of its last nine games. The Cardinal led 52-15 at the half of Thursday’s 98-50 win over Washington State and moved into a three-way tie for sixth place in the conference standings.

ABOUT WASHINGTON (22-6, 13-2 Pac-12): One bright spot in the loss to Cal was the play of senior guard David Crisp, who made five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 32 points while not committing a turnover in 34 minutes. Reigning Pac-12 player of the week Matisse Thybulle was held to four points on 1-of-5 shooting while forward Noah Dickerson had eight points and struggled to contain Cal center Connor Vanover (18 points and seven boards). Sophomore guard Jaylen Nowell averages a team-high 16.3 points on 50.6 percent shooting but committed six turnovers against the Bears.

ABOUT STANFORD (15-13, 8-8): Sophomore forward KZ Okpala scored 22 points while Cormac Ryan and Isaac White added 14 apiece in the rout of Washington State, which was outrebounded by 20 and shot 4-of-19 from 3-point range. Okpala, who has reached double figures in scoring in 16 of the past 17 games, ranks fourth in the Pac-12 in scoring at 17.4 points per game and made an impression on Washington State after shooting 7-of-13 from the field and grabbing eight rebounds. “Man, he’s a great player,” Cougars forward CJ Elleby told reporters. “He’s real tough to guard on the drive.”
