Cincinnati scored 28 unanswered points in the third quarter and rolled to a 40-7 victory over Indiana State on Saturday.
The Bearcats (1-1) held a 12-7 halftime lead, but scored four touchdowns to run away from the visiting Sycamores (1-1).
John Goebel's 3-yard run gave Cincinnati a 19-7 lead less than two minutes into the quarter. Zach Collaros hit Armon Binns with a 29-yard pass at the 8:40 mark for the second score of the period. Goebel scored on a 10-yard run 90 seconds later before Collaros found the end zone again on a 2-yard run with 3:10 left.
The win marked a strong comeback for the Bearcats, who lost 28-14 at Fresno State after leading 14-0 in its opener.
Collaros was 11-of-17 for 130 yards and two touchdowns. He gained 32 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.
Indiana State quarterback Ronnie Fouch completed 20-of-33 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown, an 18-yard pass to Alex Jones with 2:48 left in the second quarter.
Jake Rogers' 48-yard field goal gave Cincinnati a 3-0 lead with 9:40 left in the first quarter. Collaros hit Binns with a 16-yard scoring pass on the first play of the second quarter. A safety gave the Bearcats a 12-0 lead before the Sycamores got on the board and seemed to carry some momentum into the locker room at halftime.
Cincinnati rushed for 263 yards while holding Indiana State to 73 yards rushing.
Indiana State, an FCS team, defeated St. Joseph (Ind.) 57-7 in its opener.
