Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin's much-anticipated return to the
field lived up to expectations, with “RB3” leading the Bears over Sam
Houston State in a dominating 34-3 victory.
Griffin threw two touchdowns and rushed for one more to lead the Bears offense. He finished the
day throwing 19 completions on 36 attempts for 237 yards, while rushing
for another 65 yards.
The redshirt sophomore quarterback
capped a spectacular first half with a 23-yard touchdown pass to
Terrance Williams with 7:38 left to go in the second quarter to take a
21-0 lead before halftime.
Baylor's first touchdown came at the 10-minute mark in the first quarter, when Griffin threw to receiver Brad
Taylor for a 68-yard touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead. Griffin followed
that up with a 30-yard rushing touchdown with a little under five
minutes to go in the first to up the Bears lead to 14-0.
Running back Jay Finley put the game away
for good, rushing in a touchdown on a 44-yard run with 12:45 left to go
in the third quarter. Finley finished the game with 48 rushing yards on
six carries.
Baylor's defense was also a factor in the contest, sacking Bearkat quarterback Bryan Randolph three times.
Randolph finished with 12 completions on 23 attempts.
Sam Houston State placekicker Miguel
Antonio scored the team's only points on a 28-yard
field goal late in the fourth quarter.
