Syracuse running back Delone Carter rushed for four touchdowns to lead the Orange to a 42-7 victory over Colgate on Saturday at the Carrier Dome.
Carter, who rushed for 172 yards on just 14 carries, put the Orange (3-1) on the board first with a 24-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Ryan Nassib hooked up with Antwon Bailey for a 37-yard touchdown strike shortly before halftime to give Syracuse a 14-0 lead at the break.
Carter scored rushing touchdowns of 9 and 12 yards in the third quarter to put the Orange ahead 28-0, and his 18-yard touchdown run in the fourth put the game away.
Colgate finally got on the board in the fourth quarter on a 13-play, 69-yard drive capped by Nate Eachus' 12-yard run. Eachus rushed 35 times for 146 yards as the Raiders (1-2) rolled up 373 total yards and controlled the time of possession in the game, but they failed to convert points due to two costly interceptions.
Syracuse racked up 443 yards of offense and got another late touchdown run by Prince-Tyson Gulley. Nassib, who set the school record with five touchdown passes in last week's win over Maine, was more limited in this one, completing 8 of 15 passes for 169 yards.
