ATHENS, Ga. -- Were Georgia's quarterback struggles slightly overstated? It appears that might be the case.
After two middling starts to the season, quarterback Greyson Lambert gave completed an NCAA record 24-of-25 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns to pace the seventh-ranked Bulldogs past South Carolina in a Southeastern Conference game on Saturday night, 52-20.
It was effort Bulldog fans aren't likely to forget. Of his 24 completions, 23 came in a row, which established the record for completion percentage in a single game at 96 percent.
In Georgia's season-opening victories over Louisiana-Monroe and Vanderbilt, Lambert completed a combined 19-of-33 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns.
Lambert, who threw one touchdown pass to Malcolm Mitchell and two to Sony Michel, had that beat by the time the third quarter came to an end in game three.
Nick Chubb once again lent a helping hand.
The sophomore running back enjoyed another stellar outing, rushing 21 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
Mitchell led all receivers with eight catches for 97 yards and a touchdown.
After trailing 17-10 midway through the second quarter, the Gamecocks (1-2, 0-2 in the SEC) were outscored 28-3 by the Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) before South Carolina would score again.
Meanwhile, Georgia, which capped the game with a three-yard touchdown run by Keith Marshall, rolled up 576 yards of total offense while holding South Carolina to 258.
After stopping South Carolina on the opening possession, the Bulldogs surprised many by attacking the Gamecocks through the air.
Last week against Vanderbilt, Greyson Lambert started 0-for-5. But this time he completed his first three passes, driving Georgia to a 30-yard field goal by Marshall Morgan.
The Gamecocks answered with a 48-yard drive, capped by a 45-yard field goal by Elliott Fry.
After throwing for only 116 yards last week, Lambert easily surpassed that number in the first half, when he completed 14-of-15 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown.
After the Bulldogs scored rushing touchdowns on runs of two yards by Nick Chubb and 21 by Sony Michel, Perry Orth accounted for South Carolina's only first-half touchdown with a four-yard run.
Lambert's five-yard pass to Malcolm Mitchell with 17 seconds left in the second quarter pushed the margin to 24-10.
The Gamecocks took advantage of a 51-yard return by Shon Carson and a personal foul on Georgia's Reggie Davis, which allowed Fry to convert a 51-yard field goal with no time left in the half.
NOTES: South Carolina FS Isaiah Johnson was called for targeting in the second quarter; but, after a replay, the penalty was overturned. ... South Carolina C Alan Knott left the game in the second quarter because of a sprained ankle.
