ANN, ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan hung a season-high 448 offensive yards in a 31-0 win over No. 22 BYU on Saturday.
Wolverines senior transfer quarterback Jake Rudock, formerly of Iowa, completed 14 of 25 passes for 194 yards and added 33 yards and two touchdowns.
Rudock's 17-yard rushing touchdown helped the Wolverines (3-1) close the first half in impressive fashion, handing the Cougars (2-2) their largest deficit of the season. Through two quarters, the Wolverines came within four points of tying a season-high point total. They beat Oregon State 35-7 in Week 2.
Running back De'Veon Smith matched his career high of 126 yards in the first half. The 5-foot-11, 228-pound junior wowed the crowd by breaking several tackles -- one at the line of scrimmage, one in linebacker/secondary level and another 30 yards down the field -- before running 60 yards for a touchdown with approximately 12 minutes to play in the second quarter.
With a 21-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, receiver Amara Darboh helped the Wolverines rush to a 14-0 lead. Smith's 60-yarder came after that catch, which was followed by Rudock's 17-yard run.
Senior kicker Kenny Allen hit a 41-yard field goal that gave Michigan a 31-0 lead at the break.
BYU freshman quarterback Tanner Mangum completed just four of 13 passing attempts in the first half for 25 yards. He was sacked twice in the first half -- three times overall-- and finished with a season-low 53 yards on 11 of 27 completions.
Cougars linebacker Harvey Langi and defensive end Remington Peck each sacked Rudock once on Saturday. Cornerback Micah Hannemann and safety Michael Wadsworth each posted 10 tackles for BYU.
Cornerback Channing Stribling led Michigan with four tackles and a pass break-up.
