LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Junior quarterback Seth Russell passed for 246 yards and three touchdowns Saturday and junior running back Shock Linwood added 135 yards rushing as No. 3 Baylor stomped Kansas 66-7 in Memorial Stadium.
Russell and Linwood played only in the first half. They were among several Baylor regulars who returned to the sideline for the second half without wearing pads.
The Bears (5-0, 2-0 Big 12) needed slightly more than 2 minutes to drive 75 yards for their first touchdown and went on to score on each of their first eight possessions. They totaled 643 yards after netting 425 in the first half, while establishing a 52-7 margin at the break.
At that point, the 37.8-point victory margin Baylor was averaging, tops in the Bowl Subdivision, was exceeded.
Russell fired two touchdown strikes to junior wide receiver Corey Coleman, who entered the game as the nation's leader in TD receptions with 11.
For Linwood, the Big 12 rushing leader, the 100-yard game was his fourth straight. Baylor gained 280 yards on the ground.
Substitutes were also productive for the Bears. Freshman quarterback Jarrett Stidham started the second half and completed his first seven pass attempts. That string included scoring strikes of 37 yards to freshman wide receiver Ishmael Zamora and 30 yards to sophomore wide receiver Davion Hall.
Stidham added 117 yards passing, completing nine of 10 throws. Baylor distributed the ball to 11 receivers.
Kansas drove 74 yards on its first possession and scored on a 36-yard pass from freshman quarterback Ryan Willis to junior wide receiver Steven Sims. After forging the 7-7 tie, the Jayhawks went scoreless.
The Jayhawks (0-5, 0-2) remain winless under first-year coach David Beaty and have been outscored 227-95.
Baylor has scored 60 points in all but one game, a 56-21 win in the season opener against SMU.
NOTES: Baylor junior QB Seth Russell initially committed to Kansas. He was recruited out of Garland, Texas, by David Beaty, who was then on the Kansas staff headed by Turner Gill. Russell entered Saturday's game leading the nation in passing efficiency (218.7) and touchdown passes (19). "If Turner had stayed the coach there,'' Baylor coach Art Briles said earlier in the week, "we probably wouldn't have Seth Russell right now.'' ... Baylor entered the game leading the nation in scoring offense (63.8 points) and total offense (745.3). Those marks exceeded the next best averages, posted by Big 12 rival TCU, by 13 points and 115 yards. ... Senior WR Tre Parmalee, the Kansas receiving leader, missed the game with a concussion. Other Jayhawks who were ruled out were junior WR Bobby Hartzog (knee), junior DE Damani Mosby (elbow), junior QB Montell Cozart (shoulder) and junior QB Deondre Ford (thumb).
