Army 28, Morgan State 12: Angel Santiago rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another as the host Cadets prevailed in their first meeting with the Bears.
Santiago ran for 120 yards as Army, which led the nation in rushing last season at 369.8 yards per game, finished with 295 on Friday. Larry Dixon added 107 yards for the Cadets, who highlighted the 10th night game in the 89-year history of Michie Stadium by scoring on their first three possessions to take a 21-0 lead.
The teams combined for only 18 pass attempts, with Santiago finishing 4-of-8 for 101 yards. Robert Council rushed for a touchdown and threw a 22-yard TD pass to Chris Flowers for Morgan State, which was picked to finish 10th in the preseason Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference poll after going 3-8 in 2012.
Santiago put Army on the board with a 33-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-3 when he faked a pitch on an option run before cutting upfield. Santiago's second TD run came from the 1 and he threw an 18-yard pass to Chevaughn Lawrence - the junior wide receiver's first career TD - in the second quarter.
Santiago, a junior who appeared in only six games while starting one in his first two years at West Point, stretched the Cadets' lead to 28-6 with a 3-yard run on the opening drive of the second half. Geoffrey Bacon made 16 tackles for Army, which used only 9:29 on its four scoring drives.
