Missouri 35, South Dakota State
18: Maty Mauk threw for three touchdowns — including two to Darius
White — to lead the host Tigers to a win over the pesky
Jackrabbits.
Mauk finished 13-of-21 for 178
yards while Russell Hansbrough led Missouri (1-0) with 126 yards
and a score on the ground. White finished with just the two catches
for 83 yards while Bud Sasser had two grabs for 37 yards and a
score.
Zach Zenner led the offense for
FCS school South Dakota State (0-1), rushing 17 times for 103 yards
and two touchdowns. Zach Lujan came off the bench for the Jackrabbits
to complete 21-of-28 passes for 239 yards and one interception.
The Tigers jumped on top quickly
on Mauk's 44-yard scoring strike to White just 50 seconds into the
game, but the Jackrabbits were right behind, needing just one play —
Zenner's 75-yard touchdown run — to respond. Missouri had
control by the end of the first quarter, with Mauk connecting again
with White and Hansbrough scoring from 10 yards out to take a 21-7
advantage.
South Dakota State pulled to within
three early in the third on Zenner's 3-yard scoring run, but Marcus
Murphy returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score to up the
lead back to 10. Mauk found Sasser for a 29-yard score early in the
fourth to put the Tigers up 17 and they cruised from there.
