Troy 34, UAB 31 (OT): Will Scott kicked a 30-yard field goal in overtime to cap a furious comeback by the host Trojans, who scored the final 17 points to win the in-state showdown.
Jordan Chunn and Deon Anthony ran for fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally Troy from 14 points down and force overtime. After the Blazers mishandled a snap on their field-goal attempt to open the extra period, Anthony rushed 16 yards to set up Scott for the winning kick as the Trojans beat UAB for the fourth time in five years.
Troy quarterback Corey Robinson tied a school record with 20 consecutive completions - he had only two incompletions in 32 attempts - en route to 319 yards and one touchdown. That helped counteract a record-breaking night by the Blazers’ Jamarcus Nelson, who caught two long touchdown passes and returned a kickoff a school-record 97 yards for another score.
Nelson had 10 receptions for 199 yards and set another program mark with 367 all-purpose yards. Along with his big kickoff return, he had touchdown catches of 21 and 62 yards, the second of which gave UAB a 31-17 lead with 46 seconds left in the third quarter.
From that point, it was all Trojans. Chunn scored on an 11-yard run to pull Troy within a touchdown with 11:22 remaining, and Anthony tied it with a 1-yard plunge with 3:17 to go.
