Oklahoma 52, Tulsa 7: Trevor Knight passed for 299 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score as the visiting Sooners crushed the Golden Hurricane.
Sterling Shepard caught eight passes for 177 yards and a TD while Keith Ford rushed for 87 yards and two scores for Oklahoma (2-0). The Sooners defense forced three turnovers and returned an interception for a TD while holding Tulsa (1-1) to 94 yards on the ground.
Dane Evans went 23-of-43 for 204 yards, one TD and two interceptions as the Golden Hurricane lost their eighth straight to intrastate-rival Oklahoma. Keevan Lucas provided some highlights with 10 catches for 84 yards and a score but Tulsa fell into a 31-0 hole at the half and never recovered.
The Sooners needed only three plays on the opening possession and found the end zone when Ford rumbled for a 7-yard score. Knight broke for a 31-yard rushing TD on the next possession and found quarterback-turned-tight end Blake Bell with a 3-yard TD pass to make it 21-0 before the end of the first quarter.
Alex Ross broke free for an 82-yard rushing score following a turnover to cap the first-half scoring, and Oklahoma responded to the Golden Hurricane’s lone TD with Ford’s 23-yard score with 9:32 left in the third. Geneo Grissom returned an interception 38 yards for a TD one minute later and Knight’s 15-yard strike to Shepard four seconds into the fourth ended the day for most of the starters.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Sooners piled up 301 more yards (396-95) than the Golden Hurricane in the first half. … Bell, a fifth-year senior who has 12 passing TDs and 24 rushing TDs in his career, recorded his first career receiving score with the first-quarter score. … James Flanders led the Tulsa rushing attack with 54 yards on 13 carries.
