Chattanooga 42, Georgia State 14: Jacob Huesman tied a career high with two rushing touchdowns and threw for two more as the visiting Mocs rolled past the Panthers.
Keon Williams set career highs in carries (20) and rushing yards (147), shattering his previous mark of 101 yards against the Citadel in October 2010. Huesman, who passed for only 84 yards, matched that mark as a runner as Chattanooga (1-1) gained 401 yards on the ground.
Ben McLane connected with Albert Wilson on fourth-quarter TD passes of 5 and 30 yards for Georgia State, which has lost its first two games for the second straight year and dropped its sixth straight overall dating back to last season.
Williams sparked the Mocs on the opening possession when he capped a 12-play, 70-yard drive with a 2-yard score on an option play, and Chattanooga doubled the lead on the next possession when Huesman hit Faysal Shafaat on a 27-yard TD pass on a fourth-down play after initially lining up for a field goal.
Shafaat scored again on a 9-yard catch in the second quarter before Huesman staked the Mocs to a 35-0 advantage with two third-quarter rushing touchdowns. Freshman Derrick Craine capped off the Mocs’ stretch of 42 straight points with a 4-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter.
