Tulsa 45, Tulane 10: Alex Singleton rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns and Cody Green completed 16 of 26 passes for 274 yards and a pair of scores as Tulsa routed visiting Tulane.
Trey Watts carried the ball 12 times for 92 yards and caught four passes for another 53 yards for the Golden Hurricane (1-1), who bounced back after a tough loss at Iowa State last weekend.
Green Wave safety Devon Walker suffered a broken neck and a collapsed lung on the final play of the first half when he collided with a teammate. The senior had to be revived on the field and a tracheotomy was performed before he was taken to the emergency room.
Tulane (0-2) actually got on the board first on Cairo Santos’ 49-yard field goal but Tulsa took over from there. Singleton capped a 46-yard drive with a 2-yard burst to put the Golden Hurricane on top and bulled his way in from 1-yard out just over two minutes later.
Green got into the act in the second quarter when he hooked up with Thomas Roberson for a 74-yard scoring strike. Green would lead two more touchdown drives before the half, finding Jordan James for a 16-yard touchdown and handing off to Singleton on a 2-yard run to make it a 35-3 gap at the break.
Kalen Henderson added a rushing touchdown and Tulsa tacked on a field goal before the Green Wave finally found the end zone with a 66-yard touchdown pass from Devin Powell to Ryan Grant with 3:30 left in the game.
The Golden Hurricane’s defense held Tulane to a total of seven rushing yards.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Walker was in a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Julius Warmsley as both went for a tackle. He was reportedly administered CPR on the field. … Powell split time with Ryan Griffin at quarterback for the Green Wave. Powell completed 8 of 16 passes for 110 yards and the lone score while Griffin finished 7 of 13 for 60 yards. … Grant caught five passes for 109 yards for Tulane. … The Golden Hurricane scored 35 points in the first half but only held possession for 11:20 in the period.
