Maryland 47, Old Dominion 10: C.J. Brown threw for a pair of touchdowns and ran for two more as the Terrapins rolled over the visiting Monarchs.
Brown completed 14-of-22 passes for 275 yards while Brandon Ross rushed for 149 and a score as Maryland (2-0) topped the 40-point mark for the second straight week. Stefon Diggs caught six passes for a career-high 179 yards and a touchdown for the Terrapins.
Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke, who threw for 44 touchdowns last year, was picked off three times in the first half and finished 18-for-34 for 166 yards. The Monarchs (0-2), who are transitioning to FBS competition, had scored at least 30 points in each of their previous eight games.
Jarod Brown’s 35-yard field goal tied the game for Old Dominion with 7:55 left in the first quarter before Maryland ran off 28 unanswered points for a 31-3 halftime lead. Ross ran for 126 of his yards in the opening half, including a 5-yard touchdown run that gave the Terrapins the lead for good.
Brown scored on a 5-yard run with 2:58 left in the first quarter and threw a 41-yard scoring strike to Diggs midway through the second. Albert Reid scored on a 27-yard run with 1:33 remaining in the second as Maryland came away with points on five of six possessions and totaled 392 yards in the first half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Maryland is 2-0 for just the third time in six seasons and has amassed 1,164 yards in the first two contests. … Old Dominion WR Larry Pinkard caught seven passes for 96 yards after grabbing eight for 92 in the season-opening 52-38 loss at East Carolina last week. … Maryland freshman DB William Likely had 11 tackles and ran a kick back 43 yards.
