North Carolina State 10, Connecticut 7: Mike Glennon threw for 204 yards and a touchdown and his defense registered four takeaways as the visiting Wolfpack edged the Huskies.
Glennon connected with Bryan Underwood for a 46-yard scoring strike with 8:34 left in the third quarter for a 10-0 lead.
Defensive back Earl Wolff had a fumble recovery and an interception for N.C. State (1-1). David Amerson, the nation’s interception leader in 2011, and Brandan Bishop also had interceptions for the Wolfpack.
Lyle McCombs ran 5 yards for a score with seven minutes remaining in the game, bringing the Huskies (1-1) within 10-7. McCombs set up the score by taking a swing pass 43 yards.
The Huskies had one more chance with 3:17 left, but could only muster one first down.
Each team punted four times in the first quarter and combined for just four first downs – three for N.C. State. UConn’s only first down came on a roughing-the-passer call.
The Wolfpack finally put together a 15-play, 61-yard drive on their seventh possession, leading to points. Niklas Sade booted a 40-yard field goal with 2:54 remaining in the first half.
UConn was 2-for-14 on third and fourth down combined.
