No. 4 Oregon 42, Fresno State 25: Kenjon Barner rushed for a career-best 201 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead No. 4 Oregon past visiting Fresno State.
De’Anthony Thomas added two long scoring runs and the Ducks (2-0) led by as many as 32 points while sending the Bulldogs to their 15th straight loss against ranked foes.
Fresno State (1-1) received 115 rushing yards from Robbie Rouse and scored 16 consecutive points to pull within 35-19 before Barner broke loose on a 16-yard scoring run with 3:51 remaining to quell the Bulldogs’ comeback attempt.
Thomas scored on runs of 39 and 51 yards and had 102 yards on seven carries. Oregon totaled 366 yards on the ground.
Fresno State struck first with a 39-yard field goal by Quentin Breshears before the Ducks reeled off 35 unanswered points.
Thomas took a pitch and scored on a 39-yard run and Barner had a 3-yard touchdown run to give Oregon a 14-3 first-quarter lead.
Marcus Mariota connected with Colt Lyerla on a 22-yard touchdown pass with 12:47 left in the half, Thomas broke loose on a 51-yard scoring jaunt, and Barner scored from 3 yards out to make it 35-3.
Breshears booted a 43-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Fresno State forced two third-quarter turnovers and cut Oregon’s lead to 35-16 as Derek Carr tossed an 18-yard scoring pass to Isaiah Burse and Breshears kicked a 25-yard field goal.
Another Oregon turnover set up Breshears for a 37-yard field goal with 9:40 left in the game.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Thomas and Barner have each scored five touchdowns through Oregon’s first two games. … Rouse raised his career rushing total to 3,383 yards, second-best in school history behind Ron Rivers (3,473 from 1991-93). … Oregon has won 18 consecutive home games against unranked foes. … The Bulldogs were just 2-of-16 on third-down conversions.
