San Diego State 42, Army 7: Walter Kazee ran for two touchdowns and Adam Muema rushed for 98 yards and a score as host San Diego State routed Army.
Colin Lockett added a 96-yard kickoff return score and Ryan Katz threw for a touchdown as the Aztecs (1-1) forced three turnovers in avenging last season’s loss to the Black Knights.
Raymond Maples rushed for 107 yards and Terry Baggett added 100 for Army (0-1).
Kazee scored on a 4-yard run less than three minutes into the contest to get San Diego State moving. Backup quarterback Adam Dingwell added a 7-yard scoring run later in the quarter to give the Aztecs a 14-0 lead.
Kazee cruised around the right end for a 22-yard touchdown run to make it 21-0 with 8:10 left in the half.
San Diego State scored two touchdowns in a 43-second span of the third quarter to stretch the lead to 35 points. Muema scored from 1 yard out with 8:27 left and Army quarterback Trent Steelman was intercepted by Josh Gavert, leading to an 8-yard scoring pass from Katz to Chad Young.
The Black Knights got on the board on Baggett’s 10-yard run with 5:54 left in the third quarter. Lockett returned the ensuing kickoff 96 yards for a score.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego State sophomore Ezell Ruffin hauled in the first five passes of his career and finished with 132 receiving yards. ...
