Tennessee 14: Marcus Mariota passed for a career-high 456 yards and
accounted for five touchdowns as the host Ducks walloped the Volunteers.
Mariota passed for four touchdowns and rushed for another as
Oregon (3-0) scored 59 consecutive points after spotting Tennessee a 7-0 lead.
John Mundt had two scoring receptions while Josh Huff and Daryle Hawkins had
one apiece.
The Volunteers (2-1) allowed only 20 points over their first
two games but were no match for the high-powered Ducks. Oregon rolled up 687
yards and has won its first three games by a cumulative score of 184-27.
The Ducks took a 10-7 lead on Mariota’s 16-yard scoring pass
to Mundt in the first quarter and added four touchdowns in the second stanza.
Mariota scored on a 9-yard run and threw scoring passes of 54 yards to Huff and
45 to Hawkins before De’Anthony Thomas scored on a 28-yard jaunt to make it
38-7.
Mariota connected with Mundt on a 17-yard scoring aerial
with 11:30 left in the third quarter and Byron Marshall scampered in from 11
yards out and Thomas Tyner added a 2-yard run late in the quarter to make it
59-7. Tennessee’s touchdowns came on Justin Worley’s 4-yard pass to Jason Croom
six minutes into the game and Alden Hill’s 8-yard run with 7:14 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Huff
had six receptions for 125 yards and Mundt caught five passes for 121 yards. … Tennessee
DE Maurice Couch was ruled ineligible for the game by school officials after
reports surfaced that identified him as one of five SEC players to receive
improper benefits. … The longest scoring drive of Oregon’s eight touchdowns was
2:18. The Ducks have used less than two minutes to score 21 of their 25
touchdowns.
