No. 8 LSU 45, Kent State 13: Zach Mettenberger passed for 264 yards and three touchdowns and Jeremy Hill rushed for two more scores as the Tigers rolled over the visiting Golden Flashes.
Hill rushed for all 117 of his yards in the first half and Terrence Magee added 108 yards and a score on the ground as LSU (3-0) extended its FBS-record home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 44 straight.
Colin Reardon completed 20-of-29 passes for 190 yards and added a rushing touchdown as Kent State (1-2) suffered its second straight loss. Trayion Durham was held to 36 yards on 18 carries as the Tigers limited the Golden Flashes to 58 total yards on the ground.
Hill ran for a 58-yard touchdown run on the opening possession and Mettenberger hit Jarvis Landry with a 21-yard scoring pass just over four minutes later to give LSU a quick edge. Hill’s 12-yard touchdown run with 2:36 remaining in the first quarter made it 21-0.
Reardon got Kent State on the board early in the second quarter, but Mettenberger and Landry hooked up for a 31-yard score later in the period and the Tigers took a 31-10 lead into the break. Two more touchdowns early in the fourth quarter capped the rout.
GAME NOTEBOOK: LSU racked up 571 yards of total offense, going over 500 yards for the first time since the 2012 season opener against North Texas. … WR Odell Beckham caught five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown and Landry finished with four catches for 66 yards and two scores to lead the Tigers receiving corps. … The Golden Flashes forced a fumble, ending a streak of three straight games without forcing a turnover dating back to last season.
