UL Lafayette 70, Nicholls State 7: Elijah McGuire rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns and Terrance Broadway threw for one score and ran for another as the host Ragin' Cajuns rolled up their highest point total since 1943.
Torrey Pierce added 74 rushing yards and two touchdowns for UL Lafayette (1-2), which racked up 621 total yards and didn't punt until the fourth quarter. Ten different receivers caught passes for the Ragin' Cajuns.
The Ragin' Cajuns held Nicholls State (1-2) to 305 total yards and forced five turnovers. The Colonels' only score came on Tuskani Figaro's 36-yard touchdown pass to Demon Bolt with 1:25 left in the half.
UL Lafayette scored touchdowns on its first three possessions and made it 28-0 when Justin Anderson picked off a Beaux Hebert pass and returned it 58 yards for a score.
The Ragin' Cajuns scored on three straight series again in the second quarter to take a 49-7 halftime lead, and they put the ball in the end zone on their first three possessions of the second half to tie a school record with 10 touchdowns.
