Oklahoma State 43, Texas-San Antonio 13: Daxx Garman threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns in his first collegiate start as the Cowboys rolled over the visiting Roadrunners.
Starting in place of J.W. Walsh, who injured his right foot in last week’s victory over Missouri State, Garman finished 15-of-29 for Oklahoma State. Desmond Roland rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries and a pair of touchdowns for the Cowboys (2-1).
Roadrunners starting quarterback Tucker Carter completed 7-of-15 for 51 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with an apparent shoulder injury. Carter was replaced by Blake Bogenschutz, who finished 8-of-14 for 82 yards and an interception.
Oklahoma State led 27-3 when Bogenschutz broke free for a 24-yard touchdown run before Sean Ianno tacked on a 38-yard field goal. But the Cowboys pushed the advantage to 34-13 on a 1-yard touchdown run by Roland with 8:56 left in the game.
The Roadrunners (1-2) scored first on a 24-yard field goal by Ianno with 9:09 left in the first quarter but the Cowboys answered quickly. Roland scored on a 1-yard run to cap a 12-play, 75-yard drive before Garman hooked up with James Washington for a 33-yard touchdown.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oklahoma State kicker Ben Grogan, 2-for-9 the last two seasons from beyond 40 yards, nailed a 47-yarder just before halftime. … The Cowboys’ defense limited the Roadrunners to 84 yards of total offense and 2-for-10 on third down in the first half . … The Roadrunners sacked Garman four times.
