Washington State 48, Southern Utah 10: Connor Halliday threw for 383 yards and five touchdowns in an easy win over the visiting Thunderbirds following the Cougars' upset of USC a week ago.
Dom Williams hauled in three receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns, including a 43-yard score on the game's opening possession for Washington State (2-1). Gabe Marks finished with seven catches for 83 yards and a score and Damante Horton returned an interception for a touchdown - his second of the season.
Aaron Cantu threw three interceptions and didn't throw a touchdown pass after tossing five through two games for Southern Utah (2-1). Raysean Martin added 28 yards on the ground and a first-half score.
Halliday led two perfect scoring drives in the opening quarter, completing 9-of-9 pass attempts for 133 yards and two touchdowns. A 3-yard touchdown run by Martin brought the Thunderbirds within four at the 10:55 mark in the second quarter, but the Cougars jumped ahead 28-10 before halftime after Halliday's second scoring pass to Williams and Horton's interception return for a score.
LeShaun Sims picked off Halliday in the end zone at the 7:30 mark in the second quarter, but the Thunderbirds' offense was unable to convert the turnover into any points. Deone Bucannon intercepted Cantu in the third quarter to set up another Halliday touchdown pass to Marks that increased Washington State's lead to 41-10.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Halliday passed Mark Rypien for eighth all-time in career touchdown passes (30) at Washington State. ... Southern Utah's J.T. Anderson was penalized for targeting and ejected from the game with 1:52 remaining. ... Horton is now tied for the most career interceptions returned for a touchdown (three) at Washington State.
