Oregon State 51, Utah 48 (OT): Sean Mannion threw for 443 yards and five touchdowns as the visiting Beavers edged the Utes in their Pac-12 opener.
Brandin Cooks grabbed a game-high nine receptions for a career-high 210 yards and three scores for Oregon State (2-1, 1-0 Pac-12). Mannion and Cooks connected on scoring strikes with 2:29 left in regulation and in overtime.
Travis Wilson threw for 279 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions and ran for 142 yards as Utah (2-1, 0-1 Pac-12) came up short. Drew Anderson led the Utes with four receptions for 101 yards and a score.
The Beavers scored the first 13 points of the game and led 20-10 at halftime before Sean Martin’s 27-yard interception return for a touchdown pushed the cushion to 27-10 54 seconds into the third quarter. But Wilson ran for three second-half touchdowns as Oregon State rallied back to force overtime.
Wilson's 35-yard TD run started the turnaround and he added a 24-yarder with 4:25 to play to give the Utes a 38-37 lead. Wilson then scored on a 9-yard run with 21 seconds to go to force overtime at 45-45. Utah’s Andy Phillips hit a 41-yard field goal to give the Utes a 48-45 lead in OT before Mannion found Cooks for the game winner.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Mannion now has 1,237 yards through three games this season. … Wilson paid tribute to former teammate and childhood friend Nick Pasquale with an ‘NP’ sticker on his helmet and a "Rest in peace 36" on his towel. Pasquale, a sophomore wide receiver for UCLA, died after being hit by a car early last Sunday. … Oregon State WR Richard Mullaney added seven catches for 142 yards and a touchdown.
