Ohio 34, Marshall 31: Tyler Tettleton threw for 264 yards and a touchdown as the host Bobcats held on to beat the Thundering Herd.
Beau Blankenship added a pair of second-half rushing touchdowns for Ohio (2-1), which forced four turnovers and never trailed. Matt Waters and Donte Foster added 83 and 80 receiving yards respectively.
Marshall's Rakeem Cato Marshall (2-1) threw for 367 passing yards, with one touchdown and one interception. Tommy Shuler caught nine passes for a game-high 95 yards, and Kevin Grooms and Essray Taliaferro scored one rushing touchdown apiece.
After Matt Green made a 32-yard field goal to give Ohio a 10-7 lead with 5:15 left in the second quarter, Troy Green scooped up a fumble in the end zone on the ensuing kickoff. The Thundering Herd pulled within 17-10 when Justin Haig hit a 22-yard field goal just before halftime, but Blankenship capped a nine-play, 79-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to open the third quarter.
Blankenship’s second touchdown put the Bobcats ahead 31-17 with 12:02 left in the game. Cato threw for a score and ran for another to cut the Thundering Herd’s deficit to 34-31 with 29 seconds left, but Ohio recovered the onside kick.
