No. 14 Georgia 66, Troy 0: Freshman Sony Michel rushed for 155 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled over the visiting Trojans.
Heisman Trophy candidate Todd Gurley added 73 yards rushing on just six carries as Georgia (2-1) rolled up 367 yards on the ground. Hutson Mason completed 8-of-11 passes for 97 yards and two scores while Michael Bennett caught a pair of touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who are 37-1 against nonconference opponents at home since 2001.
Troy’s Dontreal Pruitt went 16-of-27 through the air for 158 yards while Georgia held the Trojans (0-4) to only 47 yards on the ground in 28 attempts. Troy, which has permitted 186 points in its first four games, gave up a pair of rushing touchdowns to backup quarterback Faton Bauta in the fourth quarter.
Troy drove inside the Georgia 10 on its first possession before missing a short field goal and Michel ran 6 yards for a score six plays later. The Trojans fumbled on their next offensive play, leading to a 9-yard scoring strike from Mason to Kenneth Towns, and Michel covered 83 yards on two runs – the final 8 for a touchdown – with 2:32 left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs scored on all six drives in the first half and received a 52-yard punt return for a touchdown from freshman Isaiah McKenzie in the second quarter. Michel broke free on the left sideline for an 18-yard score before backup Brice Ramsey connected with Bennett for a 6-yard TD and a 45-0 halftime lead.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Georgia S J.J. Green was ejected for targeting on a sideline hit only 1:15 into the contest and the Bulldogs lost RB Keith Marshall with an apparent leg injury in the second half. … Troy QB Brandon Silvers sat out the game after suffering a concussion in last week’s loss to Abilene Christian. … Gurley passed Knowshon Moreno (2,734 yards) for fourth on the program’s all-time rushing list with 2,776.
