Syracuse 52, Tulane 17: Quarterback Terrel Hunt scored five total touchdowns in his first career start as the host Orange thrashed the Green Wave.
Hunt completed 16-of-21 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 39 yards and another score for Syracuse (2-2), which has scored 106 points combined in its last two games. Jerome Smith and Prince-Tyson Gulley each had a rushing TD while the Orange blocked two punts to dominate the special teams game.
Nick Montana led Tulane (2-2), going 22-for-38 for 213 yards, with one touchdown and an interception. Justyn Shackleford caught a game-high seven passes for 106 yards and a score.
Hunt threw passing touchdowns on each of Syracuse's first three drives as a 5-yard scoring toss to Clay Cleveland pushed the Orange lead to 21-3 with 3:21 left. Syracuse found the end zone on five of its first six possessions before Hunt manned a 9-play, 85-yard scoring drive to make it 42-17 just before the half.
Hunt found Cleveland again for a 4-yard score with 5:25 left in the third quarter as the Orange lead widened to 49-17. A 22-yard field goal from Ryan Norton late in the fourth quarter gave Syracuse its first back-to-back 50-point outings since 1997.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Syracuse painted the initials ‘RE’ beside the field in honor of former athletics employee Rob Edson, who died of a heart attack last Saturday. … The Orange won its 700th game, becoming the 16th FBS program to do so. … WR Christopher Clark led Syracuse in receiving with four catches for 60 yards and a score.
