Louisiana-Lafayette 35, Akron 30: Quarterback Terrance Broadway accounted for five touchdowns as the visiting Ragin' Cajuns held off the Zips.
Broadway, who went 25-of-37 for 305 yards and three touchdowns, rushed for 68 yards and two more scores. Jamal Robinson led UL Lafayette (2-2) with eight catches for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Kyle Pohl threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns, including his second to Fransohn Bickley with 29 seconds left that got Akron (1-3) within 35-30. However, the Zips, who missed two field goals in the final 3:49 after the Ragin' Cajuns took a 35-24 lead, could not recover the onside kick.
The Ragin' Cajuns jumped to a 14-0 lead on Broadway's 9-yard pass to Robinson and a 15-yard run. Akron scored on Zach D'Orazio’s 77-yard catch-and-run and Jawon Chisholm's 22-yard run to tie the game in the second quarter.
Robert Stein's career-long 49-yard field goal gave Akron a 17-14 in the third quarter before Broadway and Pohl traded long touchdown passes. Broadway put the Ragin' Cajuns ahead with a 13-yard run with 8:07 left and, after a successful onside kick, hit Darryl Surgent for a 14-yard score less than two minutes later for a 35-24 lead.
