Utah 20, Brigham Young 13: Travis Wilson threw for two scores in the victory over the visiting Cougars, giving the Utes their fourth consecutive win in the series against their in-state rivals.
Wilson was 24-of-35 passing for 273 yards for his fourth straight game with more than 200 yards passing this season for Utah (3-1). Dres Anderson picked up his third straight game of more than 100 yards receiving with 141 on eight catches and James Poole added 96 rushing yards.
Taysom Hill passed for 260 yards and rushed for 99 but the sophomore completed just 18-of-48 pass attempts and was able to lead just one drive into the end zone for Brigham Young (1-2). Cody Hoffman had eight receptions for 108 yards and the Brigham Young rushing attack that ranked second in the nation leading up to this game finished with just 183 yards.
The Cougars were held scoreless in the first half largely in part to their failures on third down, converting just 2-of-9 and Hill was just 9-of-23 passing. The Utes struggled on third-down as well, but Wilson completed 14-of-20 passes to lead Utah's offense on three scoring drives, including a 1-yard toss to Anthony Denham for a touchdown and a 13-0 lead at halftime.
Justin Sorensen tacked on two field goals in the third quarter to give the Cougars their first six points and Brigham Young's defense shut down Wilson and the Utes' offense to gain some ground. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Utah's Eric Rowe helped the Cougars pull within 20-13 on a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Michael Alisa with 5:13 remaining in the game, but Michael Walker picked off Hill with 1:37 remaining to help seal the victory.
