Texas Christian 56, Southern Methodist 0: Trevone Boykin accounted for six touchdowns as the visiting Horned Frogs rolled in the 94th edition of the Battle for the Iron Skillet.
Boykin was 23-of-36 for 280 yards and four TDs and added 62 yards and two scores on the ground as TCU (3-0) improved to 47-40-7 in the series that dates to 1915. Deante' Gray had six catches for a career-high 96 yards and two touchdowns and B.J. Catalon ran for a career-high 114 yards for the Horned Frogs, who will host No. 3 Oklahoma next week in their Big 12 opener.
Junior walk-on Garrett Krstich was 14-of-30 for 142 yards and an interception in his first start for SMU (0-4), which dropped to 0-2 under interim coach Tom Mason, who took over when June Jones resigned after the second game. Krstich was under heavy pressure all day as the Mustangs were held to 89 yards rushing on 45 carries in their first home shutout since 1999.
Boykin scored on a 27-yard run on TCU's second play from scrimmage, and connected with Gray on a screen pass for a 28-yard score in the second. He capped the first-half scoring with an 8-yard run with 50 seconds left for a 28-0 lead after Catalon scored from nine yards out.
Boykin connected with Gray, Josh Doctson and Desmon White on scoring passes in the third quarter as the Horned Frogs pulled away. TCU reserve quarterback Matt Joeckel threw a 25-yard scoring pass to Charlie Reid in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Mustangs have been outscored 202-12 in their first four games. … SMU RB Darius Joseph scored on an apparent 35-yard TD run but after a review, it was ruled his knee touched at the 30-yard line. ... Boykin, who entered second in the Big 12 in total yards at 349.5 per game, finished with 342 yards in just three quarters.
