UNLV 38, Western Illinois 7: Tim Cornett and Adonis Smith each rushed for two touchdowns as the host Rebels routed the FCS Leathernecks.
Caleb Herring tossed a scoring pass to Jake Phillips and UNLV (2-2) racked up 284 yards on the ground. Cornett led the way with 83 rushing yards to give the Rebels back-to-back wins for the first time in Bobby Hauck’s four seasons as coach.
Trenton Norvell tossed an 11-yard scoring pass to Joey Borsellino late in the third quarter for the lone score for Western Illinois (2-2). J.C. Baker rushed for 108 yards for the Leathernecks.
Cornett scored on a 3-yard run in the opening quarter and raced 42 yards for a third-quarter touchdown that gave the Rebels a 24-0 edge. Smith scored on a 4-yard run in the third quarter and added a 16-yard scamper in the final quarter.
Herring’s 27-yard scoring pass to Phillips gave UNLV a 17-0 halftime lead.
