Stony Brook 23, Army 3: Miguel Maysonet ran for 220 yards and two touchdowns and the visiting Seawolves, ranked 18th in the FCS, upset the struggling Black Knights for their first-ever win over an FBS opponent.
Wesley Skiffington kicked three field goals for Stony Brook (4-1) in the first-ever meeting between the schools. The Seawolves had been 0-4 against FBS schools but are an FCS power in their own right, having won the Big South last season.
Chuck Priore's team nearly upset Syracuse on the road two weeks ago. This time, they managed to finish the job by rushing for 273 yards against a woeful Army defense that entered ranked 111th in the nation.
Army (0-4) wasn't much better on the offensive side, as it lost four fumbles - three in the red zone. The Black Knights' vaunted triple-option offense also finished with 273 rushing yards, but that's well below its FBS-leading average of 399 yards.
The Seawolves set the tone early. Maysonet - who ran for 139 first-half yards - broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run on the Seawolves' fourth play from scrimmage. The defense did the rest, forcing three turnovers en route to a 13-0 halftime lead.
Stony Brook took a commanding 20-0 lead by marching 75 yards in 16 plays on the opening drive of the second half. The 8-minute, 23-second drive - the Seawolves' longest of the season in time of possession - was capped by Maysonet's 1-yard score.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Seawolves have outscored opponents 76-7 in the first quarter this season. ... Army was stopped on fourth-and-1 late in the first quarter thanks to a questionable spot by the officials. Maysonet broke off a 44-yard run on the next play from scrimmage. ... Skiffington banked a 27-yard field goal off the left upright early in the second quarter.
