No. 13 UCLA 34, Utah 27: Brett Hundley accounted for three touchdowns and the visiting Bruins intercepted the Utes' Travis Wilson six times in improving to 4-0 for the first time since 2005.
UCLA (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) snapped a 24-24 tie on Ka'imi Fairbairn’s 47-yard field goal with 8:28 remaining, and Hundley’s 36-yard touchdown run put the Bruins ahead by 10 with 3:33 to play. Hundley was 17-of-27 for 211 yards and added 20 carries for 85 yards for the Bruins, who were tested in their conference opener after winning their first three games by a total of 93 points.
Utah (3-2, 0-2) battled back in the final minutes, recovering an onside kick following Andy Phillips’ 37-yard field goal with 2:04 remaining. But Myles Jack intercepted Wilson’s final pass at UCLA’s 12-yard line with 16 seconds left to end the late rally.
Wilson completed 22-of-43 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns for Utah, which tied the game at 24 early in the fourth quarter when Keith McGill intercepted Hundley’s pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown. Utah's defense held UCLA to 404 total yards after the Bruins entered the game averaging 614.
Jordon James gave the Bruins an early lead when he capped their opening drive with a 1-yard run on fourth-and-goal, but Wilson responded with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Dres Anderson. Wilson closed the opening quarter by connecting with Sean Fitzgerald on a 6-yard scoring pass to put Utah up 14-7.
GAME NOTEBOOK: UCLA OT Torian White suffered a broken right ankle early in the second quarter and had to be removed from the field on a cart. … Hundley also caught a 7-yard touchdown pass from WR Devin Fuller in the second quarter for UCLA, which was penalized 13 times for 100 yards. … Anderson had six receptions for 106 yards for Utah, which went 2-for-13 on third-down attempts.
