Tulane 31, Louisiana-Monroe 14: Orleans Darkwa rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown and Rob Kelley added a score on the ground as the visiting Green Wave knocked off the Warhawks.
Nick Montana struggled to 65 yards on 7-of-20 passing but hit Ryan Grant with a 26-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to help put the game away for Tulane (3-2), which made up for the weak passing attack by rushing for 253 yards.
Kolton Browning went 12-for-27 for 134 yards and lost a fumble before yielding to Brayle Brown, who threw for 133 yards and a score but was picked off twice for Louisiana-Monroe (2-3). Rashon Ceaser returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown as the Warhawks dropped their second straight.
Kelley’s 7-yard touchdown run with 2:07 left in the first half sent the Green Wave into the locker room with a 10-0 lead. Tulane put together a 75-yard drive out of the break that ended in Darkwa’s 1-yard touchdown burst, and took complete control less than two minutes later, when Dominique Robertson picked up Browning’s fumble and took it back 33 yards for a score.
Louisiana-Monroe finally got on the board with Ceaser’s punt return later in the third quarter but Montana got those points back with the touchdown pass to Grant that made it 31-7 with 5:28 left in the third.
