Louisiana Tech 55, Texas-El Paso 3: Cody Sokol passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as the host Bulldogs dominated the Miners in a Conference USA battle.
Sokol went 6-of-16 for 173 yards and Kenneth Dixon ran for 86 yards and a score for Louisiana Tech (3-3, 2-0 C-USA), which is the only team left undefeated in the C-USA West. Carlos Henderson caught two passes for 100 yards and a TD while Jarred Craft added a rushing score for the Bulldogs.
Jameill Showers was held to 15-of-28 for 143 yards and three interceptions as UTEP (2-3, 0-1) was blitzed for 55 or more points for the second straight week. Aaron Jones ran for 63 yards and caught four passes for 49 yards to highlight the offense for the Miners, who totaled five turnovers.
Dixon broke through for a 4-yard TD just over five minutes into the contest to get things started before the defense started to gain control. Sokol scrambled for a 32-yard TD two plays after Showers’ first interception and Showers was picked off again on the next drive, with Sokol needing only two plays to hook up with Henderson for a 69-yard TD.
The special teams got into the act with a blocked field goal return for a score as Louisiana Tech went into the locker room up 28-3. Sokol threw two more TD passes in the third quarter and Craft capped the scoring with an 18-yard burst in the fourth as the Bulldogs finished the rout.
