No. 10 Oklahoma 20, Texas Christian 17: Brennan Clay exploded for 76 of his 111 yards on a fourth-quarter touchdown run and the Sooners relied on their defense to defeat the visiting Horned Frogs in Big 12 play.
Trey Millard also rushed for a touchdown for Oklahoma (5-0, 2-0), which limited Texas Christian to 210 total yards. The Sooners held the Horned Frogs (2-3, 0-2) without a first down in the opening half.
TCU scored 10 third-quarter points and trailed by three before Clay’s career-long touchdown run gave Oklahoma a 20-10 lead with 4:37 remaining. Trevone Boykin scored on an 8-yard run to pull the Horned Frogs within three with 2:26 left but Sooners’ quarterback Blake Bell ran for two first downs as Oklahoma ran out the clock.
The Horned Frogs trailed 13-0 after a dreadful offensive first half and finally recorded their initial first down on their second possession of the third quarter. That drive ended with Jaden Oberkrom’s 25-yard field goal and TCU then recovered Oberkrom’s onside kick to set up a 2-yard run by Boykin to make it a three-point game with eight seconds left in the third quarter.
Millard’s 8-yard scoring run was the lone first-half touchdown. Michael Hunnicutt kicked field goals of 39 and 37 yards and the Oklahoma defense limited TCU to 16 yards on 18 offensive plays en route to the 13-point halftime edge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Oklahoma OLB Corey Nelson left in the third quarter with a shoulder injury. … TCU went three-and-out on its first seven possessions, including all six in the first half. … The 100-yard outing was Clay’s second of the season. He had a career-best 170 yards against West Virginia.
