Iowa State 37, No. 13 Texas Christian 23: Senior wide receiver Josh Lenz caught three touchdown passes and threw for another as the visiting Cyclones snapped the Horned Frogs' FBS-best 12-game winning streak.
TCU (4-1, 1-1 Big 12) was playing without starting quarterback Casey Pachall, who was suspended indefinitely by coach Gary Patterson after his arrest for driving under the influence Thursday. The Horned Frogs also had a 25-game conference winning streak snapped with the loss in its first Big 12 home game.
Lenz, who came into the game with only 132 yards receiving and one touchdown reception for the season, finished with five catches for 157 yards. He had touchdown receptions of 51 and 74 yards in helping Iowa State (4-1, 1-1) jump out to a quick 16-7 first-quarter lead. He later added a 1-yard score in the third quarter that increased the Cyclones' advantage to 23-10.
TCU, which had five turnovers, got as close as 23-20 late in the third quarter on a 50-yard kick by Jaden Oberkrom, one of three field goals by the freshman.
Freshman Trevone Boykin started in place of Pachall and completed 23 of 40 passes for 270 yards and a touchdown. He was also intercepted three times, including one that was returned 20 yards for a touchdown by defensive end David Irving for Iowa State's final touchdown.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Lenz became the first player to score three touchdowns against TCU in a game since Oklahoma's Michael Johnson accomplished the feat in a 35-10 Sooners' win in 2008 ... TCU had outscored its opponents 56-3 in the first quarter this season. ... Pachall is ranked fifth nationally in passing efficiency.
