No. 23 Northern Illinois 27, Akron 20: Jordan Lynch and Cameron Stingily each had a rushing score and the Huskies continued their superb start to the season with a Mid-American Conference win over the visiting Zips .
Stingily rushed for 80 yards and Tommylee Lewis accounted for 108 all-purpose yards for Northern Illinois (6-0, 2-0 MAC). Senior quarterback Lynch threw for 220 yards with one score and added 83 yards rushing to lead his team to its 19th consecutive conference victory.
Jawon Chisholm ran for a pair of scores and Kyle Pohl added 262 yards passing and a TD for Akron (1-6, 0-3). The Zips racked up 10 penalties for 91 yards and converted just 9-of-23 on third down.
The Huskies scored 17 consecutive points in the first quarter and Lynch picked up two scores - one passing and one rushing - but Chisholm's second rushing touchdown pulled the Zips within three with 1:12 remaining. The teams combined for 31 points in the first quarter but were held scoreless in the second.
Stingily scored again from 9 yards out in the third quarter and Tyler Weden made his second field goal - from 21 yards - in place of injured kicker Matthew Sims, who did not play for the Huskies. Pohl connected with Tyrell Goodman on an 11-yard scoring pass with 5:27 remaining, but the Huskies blocked the extra point.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Lynch became the 10th player in FBS history to throw for 4,000 yards and rush for 3,000 in his career. ... The Huskies have won 23 straight games at home, the longest streak in the nation. ... The Zips have lost 30 straight games on the road.
