LSU 30, Florida 27: Colby Delahoussaye’s 50-yard field goal with three seconds remaining capped a wild fourth quarter as the visiting Tigers avoided an 0-3 start in SEC play.
Freshman Leonard Fournette rushed 27 times for a career-high 140 yards and two touchdowns for LSU (5-2, 1-2 SEC), which took over at the Florida 36-yard line after Rickey Jefferson intercepted Jeff Driskel with 24 seconds left. Anthony Jennings was 10-of-21 for 110 yards and a score to help the Tigers bounce back from last week’s 41-7 loss at Auburn.
Driskel rushed 21 times for 71 yards and a score and threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson midway through the fourth quarter to put Florida (3-2, 2-2) ahead 24-20. Driskel threw for 183 yards with two interceptions for the Gators, who converted two of their 12 third-down attempts.
Andre Debose returned a punt 62 yards for a score to give the Gators an early lead before LSU answered on Fournette’s 12-yard TD run. The Tigers trailed 17-14 at the break before taking their first lead in SEC play as Fournette capped a 13-play, 65-yard drive with a 2-yard TD run late in the third quarter.
After Florida moved ahead 24-20 on Robinson’s touchdown catch, LSU regained the lead on Jennings’ 11-yard TD throw with 2:40 left. After Francisco Velez drilled an 18-yard field goal with 1:49 remaining to tie the game, Florida forced the Tigers to punt and was driving into LSU territory before Driskel was intercepted.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida WR Quinton Dunbar saw his streak of consecutive games with at least one catch end at 34 games. … The win was Les Miles’ 100th as coach at LSU. The Tigers improved to 25-1 under Miles following a loss. … The game was stopped for several minutes with 24 seconds remaining as Florida WR Latroy Pittman was carted off the field.
