Tennessee 23, No. 9 South Carolina 21: Michael Palardy converted the game-winning 19-yard field goal as time expired to propel the host Volunteers to their first win in 20 tries against a ranked opponent.

Palardy drilled two fourth-quarter field goals to account for Tennessee’s second-half offense after the Volunteers (4-3, 1-2 SEC) failed to hold a 10-point third-quarter advantage. Justin Worley threw for 179 yards and a touchdown, while Rajion Neal added 77 yards on the ground and another score.

Mike Davis rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown for South Carolina (5-2, 3-2), which lost to Tennessee for the first time since 2009. Connor Shaw, who left the game in the fourth quarter with a knee injury, ran for a score and passed for another.

After Neal gave the Volunteers a 17-7 second-quarter lead with a 5-yard run, Davis finished the Gamecocks’ second drive following the break with a 21-yard scamper. Shaw pushed South Carolina ahead on the next possession, scoring from a yard out with 2:50 left in the third quarter.

Tennessee forced a three-and-out on the Gamecocks’ next possession and Palardy hit his second field goal to close the gap to 21-20. With Shaw on the sidelines, South Carolina was unable to manage a first down on its three fourth-quarter drives and the Volunteers took advantage on their final possession on Palardy’s short kick.
