North Carolina 18, Miami 14: Giovani Bernard rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lift the visiting Tar Heels to their fourth consecutive victory.

Bernard, who grew up and starred scholastically just outside Miami, followed up his career-high 262-yard performance of a week ago by scoring on first-half runs of 10 and 17 yards as North Carolina (5-2, 2-1 ACC) won on the road for the first time.

Bryn Renner threw for 214 yards and an interception, while Eric Ebron had seven catches for 87 yards as the Tar Heels handed the Hurricanes (4-3, 3-1) their first conference defeat.

Miami quarterback Ryan Williams, forced into the game when starter Stephen Morris injured his left ankle midway through the final quarter, drove his team from its own 17-yard line inside the Tar Heels 30 before his fourth-down completion came up short of the first down marker.

Morris was 12-for-26 for 155 yards and two interceptions, and scored on a 5-yard run to cut the lead to 15-14 with 5:06 left in the third quarter. Mike James ran for 96 yards on 22 carries for the Hurricanes.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Miami was hurt by a costly delay-of-game penalty as it was attempting a tying two-point conversion after Morris' touchdown. The penalty forced the Hurricanes to kick an extra point. ... The Tar Heels were whistled for 15 penalties for 140 yards, four of which gave the Hurricanes first downs. ... North Carolina K Casey Barth booted a 48-yard field goal for an 18-14 lead, but he also missed two others after entering the game 9-for-10.
