No. 24 Boise State 20, Fresno State 10: D.J. Harper rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown as the host Broncos won their seventh straight game against the Bulldogs.
Boise State (5-1, 2-0 Mountain West) held the high-powered Fresno State offense to 322 total yards and did not allow a first-half score for the fourth consecutive game. After an opening game loss to Michigan State, the Broncos have won five straight.
Fresno State (4-3, 2-1) has lost 11 of its last 12 matchups against the Broncos, who scored late through the first quarter on Joe Southwick’s 10-yard touchdown pass to Geraldo Boldewijn. Southwick finished 11-of-22 for 113 yards with one interception.
Michael Frisina kicked a 19-yard field goal early in the second quarter before Harper added a 28-yard touchdown run. Harper, who recorded his third 100-yard rushing game against Fresno State, had four carries for 58 yards on the six-play, 80-yard drive.
Fresno State entered the game averaging 39.5 points, but were 8-of-18 on third-down conversions and didn’t score until Quentin Breshears’ 39-yard field goal with 2:11 left in the third quarter. Derek Carr added a 3-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with 2:15 left in regulation.
