Ohio State 29, Purdue 22 (OT): A Jeff Heuerman two-point conversion tied the game with three seconds left and Carlos Hyde scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in overtime as the Buckeyes escaped with a victory over the Boilermakers despite losing Heisman Trophy candidate Braxton Miller to a suspected head injury.
Miller, a sophomore quarterback who entered the game sixth in the country with 912 rushing yards, was tackled hard following a 37-yard run on the second-to-last play of the third quarter and was carted off the field and taken to the OSU medical center. He passed a series of concussion tests and was discharged later Saturday.
Backup quarterback Kenny Guiton moved the Buckeyes 61 yards and threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Chris Fields with 3 seconds left, and lobbed a two-point conversion pass to tight end Heuerman to make it 22-22. Ohio State (8-0, 4-0 Big Ten) was held to 152 yards rushing by Purdue (3-4, 0-3 Big Ten), which allowed 467 yards in a 38-14 loss to Wisconsin last week.
Caleb TerBush (19-of-30, 230 yards) found a wide-open Akeem Shavers out of the backfield on the Boilermakers' first play from scrimmage for an 83-yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 and Purdue responded to Miller's 8-yard touchdown run when Hunt returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards untouched for a score and a 13-7 lead in the first quarter.
Hyde's 2-yard run with 7:41 left in the third quarter put Ohio State in front 14-13 before Purdue responded with an eight-play, 82-yard march, capped by TerBush's 31-yard touchdown pass to Gary Bush. The Boilermakers were awarded a safety when Ohio State's Andrew Norwell was called for an illegal block in the end zone.
