No. 17 Rutgers 35, Temple 10: Gary Nova threw four touchdown passes, three in the third quarter, as the visiting Scarlet Knights roared back after a sloppy first half to cruise past the Owls.
Nova connected with Tim Wright for a 32-yard score on the first drive of the second half to get Rutgers (7-0, 4-0 Big East) within 10-7. Jawan Jamison then caught a screen pass and ran 32 yards for a touchdown and Nova found Mark Harrison for a 5-yard score with 28 seconds left in the third quarter as the Scarlet Knights seized a 21-10 lead.
Jamison finished with 114 yards rushing, his sixth 100-yard effort in 2012, and caught five passes for 81 yards. Nova, who completed 17 of 27 passes for 232 yards, also hit D.C. Jefferson for a 10-yard score early in the fourth quarter to make it 28-10.
Rutgers, which has outscored opponents 69-3 in the third quarter this season, held Temple (3-3, 2-1) to 49 yards in the second half. Scarlet Knights linebacker Khaseem Greene recovered a fumble and returned it 19 yards for a score to create the final margin.
The Owls rushed for 81 yards and played strong defense to build a 10-0 halftime lead. Tight end Cody Booth dove to catch Chris Coyer’s deflected pass for a 4-yard touchdown with 36 seconds left in the first quarter. Brandon McManus added a 49-yard field goal 1:10 before halftime.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Temple safety Vaughn Carraway was suspended for the game by the Big East after his flagrant foul in last Saturday’s 17-14 overtime win at Connecticut. … Rutgers is 7-0 for just the third time since 1976 and 4-0 in the Big East for the second time. … Temple running back Montel Harris had 81 yards rushing.
