California 31, Washington State 17: Zach Maynard threw for one score and rushed for another and the Bears beat the host Cougars for the eighth straight time.
C.J. Anderson added a pair of rushing touchdowns for California (3-4, 2-2 Pac-12), which won its second straight conference game. Anderson scored from 4 yards out to give the Bears a 14-3 lead before halftime and put the game away with a 29-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter. He finished with 112 yards on 15 carries.
Maynard made a habit out of hitting his favorite target, Keenan Allen, throughout the game. Allen caught 11 of Maynard's 14 completions for 166 yards. He also opened the scoring with a 69-yard touchdown pass from Maynard in the first quarter.
Jeff Tuel threw a pair of touchdown passes to Brett Bartolone for the Cougars. The duo's first score, an 8-yarder, cut the deficit to 21-10 midway through the third quarter and was Washington State's first touchdown in more than 100 minutes of action. They hooked up again midway through the fourth quarter from 6 yards out.
Tuel finished with 320 yards on 30-of-53 passing for Washington State (2-5, 0-4).
GAME NOTEBOOK: Connor Halliday started at quarterback for the Cougars but threw a pair of interceptions and was replaced by Tuel. ... Washington State has lost 11 of their last 12 conference games. ...Washington State junior receiver Marquess Wilson went over 3,000 career receiving yards. He entered the game 17th all-time in the Pac-12.
