South Alabama 27, Troy 13: Kendall Houston and Xavier Johnson each rushed for over 100 yards and a touchdown as the Jaguars pulled away from the visiting Trojans in the second half of the Sun Belt Conference matchup.
Houston finished with 178 yards, topping the century mark at South Alabama for the first time since September 2011, and Johnson gained 107 for the Jaguars (5-2, 4-1 Sun Belt). Brandon Bridge completed 9-of-21 passes for 106 yards and a touchdown.
Brandon Silvers was 9-of-18 for 62 yards before being relieved by Dontreal Pruitt, who completed 4-of-6 passes for 83 yards and a TD. Jordan Chunn led the way on the ground with 53 yards for the Trojans (1-7, 1-3).
South Alabama scored on its first two drives, as Aleem Sunanon booted a 38-yard field goal and Bridge followed with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Shavarez Smith for a 10-0 lead with 4:09 left in the opening quarter. The Trojans came up with three consecutive stops, however, and Ryan Kay kicked a 43-yard field goal during that stretch to pull them within 10-3 at the half.
Kay tacked on another field goal early in the third quarter, but the Jaguars answered with back-to-back touchdowns as Johnson scored his first career TD on a 14-yard run and Houston broke loose for a 41-yard score to extend the lead to 24-6 with 5:09 left in the period. Sunanon added a 33-yard field goal late in the fourth to push the lead to 21 points.
