Pittsburgh 20, Buffalo 6: Ray Graham and Rushel Shell delivered rushing touchdowns as the visiting Panthers slogged to the non-conference victory in windy and rainy conditions.
Graham, who ran for 201 yards and three scores against the Bulls last season, finished with 74 yards on 20 carries as Pittsburgh (3-4) stayed unbeaten in four meetings with Buffalo since the series began in 2008. His 7-yard touchdown run in the third quarter stood as the game's only second-half points.
Shell's 4-yard touchdown rush staked the Panthers to a 13-0 advantage with 8:40 remaining in the second quarter. The Panthers ran the ball on all nine plays of the drive following Jason Hendricks' interception return to the Bulls' 27, and they carried 42 times for 126 yards on the day.
Two field goals by Patrick Clarke pulled the Bulls (1-6) to within 13-6 at halftime. Buffalo quarterback Alex Zordich scrambled for 16 yards on a third-and-20 to set up the second kick, a 41-yarder with 12 seconds remaining.
The Bulls' comeback hopes took a hit when, still trailing 20-6, they had a 13-play drive halted on downs at the Panthers' 25 with 4:25 left in the third quarter. An 18-play Buffalo drive ended at the Pittsburgh 5 as the Bulls failed to find the end zone in the closing seconds.
