North Carolina 43, North Carolina State 35: Giovani Bernard returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown with 13 seconds left as the host Tar Heels erased a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to snap a five-game losing streak against the Wolfpack.
Bernard, who had 230 yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns, doesn't normally return punts but was inserted by coach Larry Fedora after North Carolina used its final timeout with 30 seconds left following an N.C. State three-and-out. Bernard fielded Wil Baumann's 48-yard punt and raced untouched down the right sideline for his second punt return TD this season.
Bryn Renner was 30-of-47 for 358 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Tar Heels (6-3, 3-2 ACC). Renner's 3-yard touchdown pass to Sean Tapley brought North Carolina to within 35-32 with 10:23 remaining and Casey Barth's 34-yard field goal with 1:24 left tied it.
Mike Glennon tied a school record with five touchdown passes was 29-of-52 for a career-high 467 yards and two interceptions for North Carolina State (5-3, 2-2). Four of the touchdowns came in the first half when the Wolfpack scored the final 21 points to take a 28-25 lead at intermission.
North Carolina State's Bryan Underwood caught six passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns, including a 55-yarder with 39 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Wolfpack a 35-25 lead. The teams combined for 1,104 yards, including 701 in the first half.

He also extended his school record. ... North Carolina State has yielded 83 points in the first quarter this season and 101 in the other three periods. ... North Carolina WR Erik Highsmith had a 45-yard touchdown run on a reverse in the first quarter and added three catches for 48 yards.
