Arkansas State 50, Louisiana-Lafayette 27: Ryan Aplin threw for 269 yards and a touchdown and Brian Davis booted a season-high five field goals as the Red Wolves snapped the Ragin' Cajuns' eight-game home winning streak.
Aplin was 21-of-31 and Frankie Jackson ran for a pair of scores as the Red Wolves (5-3, 3-1 Sun Belt) rolled up 526 yards, moving into sole possession of second place in the conference behind Louisiana-Monroe. Davis matched his career-long with a 47-yarder among his four in the first half.
Louisiana-Lafayette quarterback Terrance Broadway threw a pair of touchdown passes to Darryl Surgent, the second a 25-yard connection to bring the Ragin’ Cajuns (4-3, 2-2) within 26-14 only 2:44 into the second half. Broadway threw for 374 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
Arkansas State, which has won three straight, responded with a pair of touchdowns to put the game away. David Oku ran 5 yards for a score and Rocky Hayes zipped 57 yards for another on a reverse as the Red Wolves took a 40-14 lead with 1:53 left in the third quarter.
The Red Wolves foiled a Louisiana-Lafayette fake punt late in the first quarter to set up Jackson’s 11-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second for a 13-0 lead. Tausean Holmes’ interception on the next series led to Aplin’s 35-yard scoring strike to Julian Jones and Arkansas State went on to lead 26-7 at halftime.
