The Yellow Jackets scored on their first two possessions, including Deon Hill’s 14-yard touchdown run and Thomas’ 18-yard scoring pass to Smelter to build a 14-0 lead 11 minutes into the contest. Lambert brought the Cavaliers within a touchdown on a 13-yard scoring strike to Zachary Swanson late in the first quarter, but Thomas’ 11-yard TD pass to Darren Waller on the opening snap of the second quarter re-established a 14-point advantage.
Virginia cut the deficit to 21-10 on Ian Frye’s 22-yard field goal late in the first half, but Days capped a 12-play march to start the second half with a 4-yard run to make it 28-10. Thomas found Days for a 17-yard touchdown with 7:01 to play.
